This New York fashion week, the trendiest topic on everyones lips, minds and bare ankles was of course, our beloved friend who won't stop vying for attention, snow. Nasty weather aside, we've had some exciting fashion to keep us occupied. A few of my favorites included Alexander Wang, The Row, Proenza Schouler, Rosie Assoulin and Vera Wang.
Now, in the spirit of Valentines Day, I am bringing you the top four accessory trends that I fell in love with. Mer mer. Woh woh. Honk honk. Let's begin, shall we?
Trend #1: As I was ogling Proenza Schouler's pointy lugg-soled flats, I noticed something familiar that made me nostalgic for 3rd grade, but I couldn't figure out what it was. It hit me like a sugar-addicted child hits a piñata when I laid eyes on Phillip Lim's rectangular bag in the same print. A COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK. (And the crowd goes wild!!!)
Trend #2: Socks. I rambled about the socks comeback at length during the Spring collections (read it here) but now, my friends, family and loved ones, I can say that these bad boys are here to stay. Well, at least according to my darling friends Vera Wang, MK and Ashley (The Row), and the Mulleavy sisters (Rodarte).
P.S. I took this one for a spin last night, wearing pumps to dinner was a must and I couldn't bear to bare the tops of my feet (technical term anyone?) so I popped on some ankle socks. Needless to say it worked flawlessly. My pump made like Cindarella's pumpkin (get it?) and turned into a bootie. DIY booties 101. You heard it here first!
Trend #3: Architectural statement cuffs brought to you by Altuzarra, Donna Karan and Reed Krakoff. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, the Debbie Downer, the Negative Nancy if you will, but you may want to retire your delicate layered bracelets and replace them with chunkier monkeys come fall. And by monkeys, I mean cuffs. Obviously.
You can get crafty and try to make Altuzarra's cuff on your own. All you'll need is a wire hanger and some squiggly dance moves. Pause. Picture the scene. Resume.
Trend #4: Fur. On everything. Your neck (I'm referring to a scarf, not to be confused with a beard), your shoes (preferably in the form of a heel-mohawk) and your handbags (some may confuse these furry lunch bags for a bunny. Do not be alarmed.)
